Eligibility, Admission Procedure & Fellowship

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline from a recognised university with atleast 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade
    OR
  • A 4-year bachelor’s degree programme or equivalent in relevant discipline from a recognised university with atleast 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade
    OR
  • An MPhil degree from a recognised university with atleast 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.

Candidates appearing in the final year Degree examination can also apply, provided they furnish proof of meeting the minimum eligibility criteria at the time of joining the programme.

Eligible candidates, who intend to take admission for PhD are required to apply in a prescribed online application form along with a non-refundable processing fee of Rs.1250/-. The payment should be made online by credit card/debit card/net banking.

An Entrance Test shall be qualifying with qualifying marks as 50%. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.

The candidates who qualify the UGC-NET (Including JRF) UGC-CSIR NET (Including JRF) / GATE/GPAT with a valid score in terms of cut-off marks and duration, shall be exempted from appearing in the entrance test and deemed to be qualified for personal interview.

The candidate, who is awarded category 1 in *NET examination will be granted full marks of written test.  The marks obtained in the *NET examination by the candidates in categories 2 & 3 will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D. The marks obtained in NET examination will be considered while finalizing the merit. The final merit will be computed applying weightage of 70% to written test and 30% weightage to interview.

(The candidates who are exempted from Written/Entrance Test, will be awarded the highest marks scored by the candidates, who appeared in the Written/Entrance Test conducted by Nirma University for that particular discipline.)

The selection criterion for the admission in PhD programme are as under:

  1. For all the candidates qualified in the written test and candidates exempted from written test, a viva-voce will organised by the University where the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before Department Research Committee.
  2. The viva-voce shall consider the following aspects
    • the candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research;
    • the research work can be suitably undertaken at the Institution;
    • the proposed area of research can contribute to New/additional Knowledge

The final selection will be based on weightage of 70% to the entrance test and weightage of 30% in the viva-voce.

  1. All the candidate will have to undergo course work requirement of 16 credits.
